William Adam4 Erner (Joseph3, Joseph2), born 15 February 1883 at Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois (baptismal certificate(3)); died 21 September 1960 at Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa (Arteriosclerosis); married 17 November 1904 at St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri to Emma Mary Augusta Otto who was born 18 April 1887 at Pinnow, Pomerania, Germany (now in Poland) and died 22 June 1955 at Dubuque (Heart Attack).
[Mary was an infant of eight months when her family arrived in America on 21 December 1887. She worked as a cigar maker from age twelve until their marriage.]
While still a teenager, William got his first camera and was an avid amateur photographer. He took many of the early family pictures himself.
He was a typesetter. He became a Linotype Operator for
the Dubuque Times-Journal and later for the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald. They
lived at 2034 Elm Street in Dubuque. They were members of Sacred Heart Catholic
Church at Dubuque. He registered for the WWI Draft at Dubuque (his
registration card, which has the wrong birthdate and age
).

Harold William5 Erner, born 08 May 1905(6) at St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri; died 19 August 1963(5)(6) at Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana; married 23 September 1929 at Indianapolis to Mary Kathryn Richardson who was born 22 August 1906(6) at Indianapolis and died 21 May 1999 at Ventura, Ventura, California(6). He was a printer and later a composer for the Indianapolis News and later the Indianapolis Times. [She was a musician, and a music teacher in the public schools. Ethel Marie5 Erner, born 31 October 1906(6); died 09 April 1978 at Dubuque(6); married 28 October 1936 at Dubuque to Edward J. Bewer who was born 02 September 1896(6) and died March 1940(6) at Dubuque. She worked at radio station KDTH in Dubuque. They had no children.
Ruth Violet5 Erner, born 27 June 1911; died 19 December 1970 at Dubuque (Suicide); married 23 June 1936 at Dubuque to Francis A. Hammelder. They had no children.
Miriam Frances5 Erner, born 19 November 1916; married 02 September 1937 at Dubuque to Harold Nicholas Hennig (son of Jacob Hennig and Mary Munsch) who was born 10 May 1909(6) at Dubuque and died 11 February 1975 at Arkadelphia, Clark, Arkansas(6). He was a pressman, and later a free-lance outdoor writer. He wrote articles and columns for several magazines, including Sports Afield. They had three children.
Lester Frederick5 Erner, born 15 December 1918(6); died 06 February 1983 at Alexandria, Madison, Indiana(6) (Cancer); married 10 November 1941 at Dubuque to Marjorie Jean Powers (daughter of Thomas Joseph Powers and Marjorie Leone Hurd) who was born 01 March 1923(6) at Waucoma, Fayette, Iowa and died 26 April 2001(6) at Alexandria (Old Age). He was the payroll clerk for the National Gypsum Company plant at Alexandria. They are buried at Parkview Cemetery at Alexandria. Children, born at Alexandria:
(MAjor) Joseph6 Erner, born 29 October 1946. He was an industrial fork-truck driver for the General Motors Corporation at Anderson, Madison, Indiana. He served 31 years in the U.S. Army National Guard, including 5 years as the Unit Commander of two different Companies, 4˝ years as Executive Officer of the 138th Signal Battalion, and 5 months as Acting Battalion Commander of the 138th Signal Battalion. He is the author of this book and this website.
James Dennis6 Erner, born 04 September 1948(6); died 07 June 1981(6) at Alexandria (Automobile Accident); married 16 November 1968 at Jamestown, Tennessee to Mary Catherine Clendenin. He was a lineman and later an installer for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company at Anderson. He is buried at Parkview Cemetery, with his parents. [She had three children from a previous marriage.] They had one child.
(Doctor) William Edward5 Erner, born 13 June 1924(6); died 15 April(6) (or 19 April) 1989 at Falls Church city, Virginia (Cancer); married 28 January 1956 at Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware to Margaret Mary Punte (daughter of Edward George Punte and Margaret McKenna) who was born 09 December 1930. He was the Director of Research and Development for Air Products Corporation. Later, he was a senior research chemist for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He held several U.S. patents, mainly for Neorith® Artificial Blood. [She worked as a civilian Branch Chief for U.S. Army Intelligence.] He is buried at Fairfax Memorial Park at Falls Church. They had five children.
