Jasper3 Erner (Gerhard2), born 07 October 1870 at Quincy, Adams, Illinois (baptized as Casper);  died 03 April 1960 at Tacoma, Pierce, Washington (Arteriosclerosis)(Washington State Death File #8405);  married 1905-06 probably at Tacoma to Mary Theresa Edtl who was born 09 September 1873(6) at New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut and died 15 November 1975(6) aged “99” years at Longview, Cowlitz, Washington (also Death Certificate #025080).

While young, he worked as a clerk for different stores in Quincy. In 1892 he moved to Toledo, Lucas, Ohio and about this time he started using the spelling Jasper (which is the common Anglicized form of Caspar). He went to work with his brother John at the Bissell & Dodge Company. In 1894 he became an electrician.

He served in the Spanish-American War in 1898 (from Death Certificate and 1930 census, although I didn’t find him in the National Archives index). After completing his service, he went to Columbus, Ohio and worked for his brother's electrical contracting company. In 1901, when his brother moved the company to Cleveland, Jasper moved west.

They were living in Seattle about 1908-09. During this time, he became a draftsman and went to work for the U.S. Department of the Navy. In 1920 they were living at 507˝ 23rd Avenue in San Francisco, San Francisco, California. They later moved back to Tacoma where they lived at 5411 South Yakima Street.

1930 Census: Jasper Erner, page 069, visit 047/049, Vallejo city, Solano, California.

He is buried at Calvary Cemetery at Tacoma.

Known child:

Robert Augustine4 Erner, born 26 June 1907(7) at Blaine, Whatcom, Washington;  died 28 January 1950 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California(7)(California State Death File #50-11973);  married after the 1930 census to Zella Viola Bassett (her second marriage)(daughter of Harry H. Bassett) who was born 05 January 1906(7)(or 1907(6)) in Washington or Oregon and died 25 November 1973 at San Francisco(6)(7). He was a seaman. 1930 Census: Robert A. Erner (single, in hotel), page 142, visit 078/104, Baltimore (E.D. 028), Baltimore, Maryland. In 1939, they were living at 634 Waller Street in San Francisco.
