They came to the U.S. in 1854, from Neuhaus, Westphalia, Germany (from son Henry’s obituary). [NOTE: There is more than one Neuhaus in Westphalia. I don’t know which one they came from.]
[NOTE: All five of their known adult children came to Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois by at least 1856, but I haven’t yet found any record of the parents there.]

Johann Henry Strohmeyer, born 28 April 1828(5); died 09 April 1911(5) at Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois; married 11 April 1857 in Jo Daviess County (Book B, page 173) to Paulina Keller who was born 26 June 1837(5) at Seedorf, Württemberg, Germany and died 06 July 1886 aged 49 years, 10 days(5) at Galena. He was a shoemaker, apprenticed in Germany. He stayed in New Orleans for several months before going to Galena. He was Naturalized on 24 August 1860 in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court. He and his son Henry, Jr. operated a shoe store at 180-182 Main Street as ‘H. Anton W. Strohmeyer, born 1861(5); died 24 April 1905(5) at Galena; married 29 May 1884 in Jo Daviess County (Book E, page 419) to Antoinette Lemper (daughter of A. J. Lemper) who was born 27 April 1864 (but gravestone says 1865(5)) in Illinois and died 03 March 1917(5) at Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa. Geiger (son of John and Mary Geiger) who was born 1867(5) and died 11 October 1946(5) at Galena. He was a shoemaker. Elizabetha Strohmeyer, born 1831; died after the 1920 census at St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota [possibly the Elizabeth Franke who died 16 December 1922 (Minnesota State Death Index)]; married 1856 in Jo Daviess County (Book B, page 080) to Anton Franke who was born about January 1830 in Prussia, Germany and died 1910-11 at St. Paul. [He came to the U.S. in 1854 (from 1900 census).] He was a shoemaker; they lived on Franklin Street in Galena. Stuckstede (son of Johann Gerhard Stuckstede and Mary ______) who was born about April 1862 at St. Louis and died (buried 30 May) 1944 aged 82 years(5) at St. Louis.
