Johannes Bodde (son of Heinrich Bodde and Christina Gerke), born 1796;  married 22 November 1825(1) at Allendorf, Kreis Arnsberg, Westphalia, Germany to Maria Margaretha Hellerman (daughter of Lorenz Hellerman and Regina Hellerman) who was born 1797. He was a shoemaker.

Known children, born at Allendorf:

Franz Wilhelm Bodde, baptized 11 August 1826(1). [Possibly the “August” Bodde, tailor, born about “April 1826” (from 1900 census) in Germany, married 1854-55 in Germany to Frances ______ who was born about June 1836 in Germany, and had four children all of whom were still living in 1900. They came to the U.S. in 1860 and 1865 respectively (from 1900 census). They were living next door to Franz Bernard Bodde [below] in the 1900 census (August Bodde, page 323, visit 189/236, Detroit (E.D. 022), Wayne, Michigan). However, he could just as easily be a cousin from a nearby village, or it might even just be a coincidence.]

He was a leather tanner and dyer. They lived at 268 Mullett Street in 1864; at 244 Mullett Street in 1875; at 191 Macomb Street in 1885 (from Detroit City Directories).

McClary;  married second 1924-25 to Nicholas William Schierlinger who was born 21 August 1891(6)(but WWI draft registration says 1893(8)) at Detroit(8) and died January 1972 at Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado(6). She was a piano teacher. Nicholas was a printer; he was a WWI veteran; he registered for the Draft at Anamosa, Jones, Iowa [previous service: 1 year, cavalry, Ft. Des Moines, Iowa]. 1920 Census: Edith McLary (married but alone, and children, with her mother). 1930 Census: Nicholas W. Schierlinger, page 015, visit 194/005, Detroit (E.D. 813), Wayne, Michigan. Arthur F. Ternes, born 05 May 1894(6)(8);  died 25 September 1972 at Detroit(6);  married 1923-24 to Adeline M. Israel who was born about 1898 in Michigan. He was a plumber. Olive Rosa Ternes, born 04 October 1896(6);  died 09 April 1981 at Detroit(6);  married about 1913-14 to Ronald Joseph Peltier who was born 14 April 1892 at Detroit(8). He worked for Ford Motor Car Company(8); later he was a mail carrier. 1920 Census: Ronald J. Rosa Bodde, born about February 1878;  married 1900-01 to Henry Lingohr (son of Eduard Lingohr and Theresia BÖhmer) who was born about 1876 at Detroit and apparently died before the 1920 census. [NOTES: Eduard Lingohr was born about 1845 at Eslohe, Kreis Meschede, Westphalia, Germany. Theresia Böhmer (also from Eslohe) was a niece of Maria Theresia Christina (Funke) Muer. Ludolph Charles Lingohr, born 08 March 1904(6);  died October 1964(6);  married 1924-25 to Elizabeth ______ who was born about 1904 in Michigan. Known children:  Betty Louise Lingohr, born about 1924;  Ludolph Charles Lingohr, born 27 December 1930, killed in action 06 November 1953 during the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force (SN: AF16345224).

Johannes Caspar Bodde, baptized 16 May 1831(1) at Allendorf, Kreis Arnsberg, Westphalia, Germany;  apparently died before the 1900 census at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA;  married 23 May 1854 at Detroit to Rosina Gauge who was born about January 1828 in Prussia, Germany.

He was a tailor. They lived at 68 Maple Street in 1864; later at 72 Sherman Street (from Detroit City Directories).

Rosa Bodde, born about 18 May 1875;  died 13 October 1875 aged 04 months, 25 days (Michigan State Death Index).

Franz Bernard Bodde, baptized 16 August 1837(1) at Allendorf, Kreis Arnsberg, Westphalia, Germany;  died 13 November 1917 at New Baltimore, Macomb, Michigan, USA;  married 29 September 1868 at St. Mary’s Church at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA to Adelheidt Cramer (daughter of Caspar Cramer and Theresa Grosfeld) who was born about July 1845 at Belecke, Westphalia, Germany and died 13 September 1918.

He was a shoemaker; she was a bank clerk. They lived at 93 Croghan Street in 1875; at 79 Croghan Street in 1885; at 495 Field Avenue in 1917 (from Detroit City Directories). John Raphael Bodde, born 12 February 1872;  died 02 March 1940;  married first after the 1900 census to Anne Youngblood who died 1900s from complications of childbirth;  married second by 1917 to Irene Curley who was born 09 August 1891 at Detroit(11), later divorced. He was the President of People’s State Bank in Detroit, which at the time was the largest bank in Michigan. Biography from The Book of Detroiters, published by A. N. Albert Frank Bodde, born 20 December 1873(8);  died 06 March 1958;  married 14 June 1921 at Marine City, St. Clair, Michigan to Ethelynn C. Ohlert (daughter of Frederick and Charlotte Ohlert) who was born 26 May 1891(6) at Detroit and died 22 November 1985 at Marine City(6)(also Michigan State Death Index). He was a clerk; later he was a traveling salesman for a shoe company; later he was a farmer. He registered for the WWI Draft in Macomb County, Michigan. 1930 Census: Albert F. Bodde, page 159, visit 058/059, Wales, St. Clair, Michigan. Known children, possibly not in correct birth order:  Charlotte Adelaide Bodde [later known as (Sister) Mary Alberta Bodde], born about May 1923, she was a Catholic nun;  John Anthony Bodde, born 21 June 1925(6), died 18 August 1987 at Rochester Hills, Oakland, Michigan (Michigan State Death Index, but SSDI says 15 August 1987(6)), married Phyllis Farwick;  (Reverend) Frederick Albert Bodde, born about December 1926, he was a Catholic priest, he contributed much info to this website;  Mary Agnes Bodde, born about March 1930, married to William G. Griffor who was born about December 1921;  Robert Francis Bodde, born about 1934, married Iris Hustman, they moved to Virginia.

Anthony Bodde, born 03 January 1876(8);  died 06 September 1953;  unmarried. He was a bookkeeper; later he was a wholesale liquor dealer; later he was an insurance and real estate agent. He was one of the founders of Beaver Realty Insurance Company in Detroit. Felix Peter Bodde, born 04 April 1880(8);  died 19 February 1948;  married 1915-16 to Florence Meloche (her second marriage) who was born about 1886 in Canada and died 29 August 1961. He was a real estate agent. 1910 Census: (single, with parents). 1930 Census: Felix P. Bodde, page 256, visit ---/037, Detroit (E.D. 053), Wayne, Michigan. No children with them in 1930.

(Sister) Maria Adelaide Bodde, born 20 August 1882;  died 27 May 1963;  unmarried.
