He came to the U.S. [traveling with at least two other people who are known to have been from Allendorf, Kreis Arnsberg, Westphalia, Germany] on the ship Maryland which sailed from Bremen, Germany and arrived at Baltimore on 24 May 1854. He is buried at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery (Section 09S, lot 00PG) at St. Louis.
