George d.4 Orner (Felix3, felix2, Ulrich1), born 01 January 1802(6)(although his gravestone says 1801(14)) in Menallen (now Butler), Adams, Pennsylvania and christened 04 July 1802 (Sponsors: George and Katy Stauch)(6);  died 10 March 1884 aged “83” years, 02 months, 09 days(14) at Strongstown, Indiana, Pennsylvania;  married first 26 December 1822 to Elisabeth Weaver who was born 11 November 1805(14) and died 12 January 1840(14) in Menallen from complications of childbirth;  married second 31 December 1840 to Maria Dixon who was born about 067 August 1797 in Pennsylvania or Maryland and died 19 September 1877 aged 80 years, 01 month, 13 days(14) at Strongstown (gravestone).

He was a shoemaker. He moved to Indiana County about 1847. He later was a farmer and a lumberman; he and his brother Daniel were partners in a timber farm and a sawmill in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He later also owned a sawmill in partnership with his son Ephraim. He served as County Treasurer. Biography from page 529, History of Indiana County, Pennsylvania, published by J. A. His will (Indiana Will Book 5, page 375): not looked up. Elisabeth is buried at Fairview Cemetery at Arendtsville, Adams, Pennsylvania, but her gravestone is almost unreadable now (in July 1998). George and Maria are buried at Union Cemetery at Strongstown.

Orner)(6);  died 14 September 1901 aged 76 years, 11 months, “19” days at Strongstown (Indiana Progress, issue of 18 September 1901);  married to Henry Bolinger who was born about 1814 in Pennsylvania and died 10 June 1878 aged “about 66 years” (The Indiana Democrat, issue of 13 June 1878). He was a farmer. Christina5 Orner, born 16 July and christened 03 September 1826 (Sponsors: Jacob and Maria Orner)(6);  died late 1850s in Blacklick, Cambria, Pennsylvania;  married to Samuel Reed (son of William and Sarah Reed) who was born 1824 and died 14 March 1890 in Blacklick. Isabella6 Reed, born 27 September 1848;  died 26 June 1940 in Blair County, Pennsylvania (obituary in Altoona Mirror, issue of 27 June 1940);  married 02 July 1872 to George W. Strong who was born 22 December 1850 in Pennsylvania and died 17 April 1944 (obituary in Altoona Mirror, issue of 18 April 1944). Sheets who was born about 1872 in Pennsylvania and apparently died before the 1930 census. He was a hotel clerk; later he was a foreman at a paper mill. 1910 census: Edward K. Sheatz (with her parents). 1920 census: Edward K. Sheets (with her parents). 1930 census: Jessie M. Sheets (widow, with parents). Known child:  George W. Sheets, born about September 1908.

Elisa5 Orner, born 14 May and christened 31 August 1828 (Sponsors: David and Hannah Orner)(6);  died 02 December 1911 in Blacklick, Cambria, Pennsylvania;  married possibly about 1859-60 to William Simmons who was born about 1821 in Maryland and died 1885 in Blacklick. Henrietta5 “Harriet” Orner, born 08 April and christened 21 June 1833 (Sponsors: parents)(6);  died 19 August 1910 (Obituary from Indiana Evening Gazette, issue of 26 August 1910);  married to Silas Stophel (son of Thomas Stophel and Elizabeth Boyle, both buried at Union Cemetery at Strongstown; and brother of John, below) who was born about 1828 in [Wheatfield?], Indiana, Pennsylvania and died circa 1879-80. They had eleven children, ten of whom died before the 1910 census [also confirmed by her obituary which was published less than four months later]. Known children:

Anna Maria6 Stophel, born about December 1859;  died 10 March 1887 in Lower Prospect, Cambria, Pennsylvania;  married to Michael L. Luther who was born about August 1859 in Pennsylvania. He was a house carpenter. 1900 Census: Michel Luther (widower, with Andrew Jackson), page 066, visit 025/026, Lilly [village], Cambria, Pennsylvania. No children with him in 1900.

George6 Stophel, born about 1864;  married to Mary Ellen Fetterman (daughter of Joseph Fetterman and Nancy E. Schultz) who was born about 1869 in Pennsylvania. He is probably the George Stophel mentioned in this legal notice (Indiana Democrat, issue of 14 February 1895) and this legal notice (Indiana Democrat, issue of 22 February 1895). [NOTE: I couldn’t find either of them in the 1900 census (but maybe he didn’t want to be found.  )]

Harry J.6 Stophel, born about 16 October 1866;  died 08 April 1893.

+              Maude M.6 Stophel, born about October 1870;  married WILLIAM SYLVESTER6 ORNER.

Shelton6 Stophel, born about November 1873. He was a barber. 1900 Census: (single, with mother).

+    SUSANNA5 ORNER, born 27 March and christened 14 June 1835 (Sponsors: parents)(6);  married Daniel S. Brallier;  moved to Blacklick, Cambria, Pennsylvania; then to Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania.

+    NANCY ELIZABETH5 ORNER, born 29 September and christened 03 December 1837 (Sponsors: parents)(6);  married John A. Stophel;  moved to Wetmore, McKean, Pennsylvania.
