Mitchell) who was born 11 December 1855(14) in Butler County, Iowa and died 21 October 1880 aged 24 years, 10 months, 10 days(14) in Dakota Territory; married second 29 January 1881 in Bremer County to Laura Alena McCaffree (daughter of Charles McCaffree and Cynthia Messinger) who was born 26 April 1857(14) in Sullivan County, Missouri and died 18 May 1924(14) at Winfield.

He was a farmer; he later owned a second-hand store. He bought government land in Jackson, Miner (now Sanborn), South Dakota on 30 June 1882 (reference) and 03 January 1883.
