Philip3 Arner (HEINRICH2, Ulrich1), born 17 October 1772(M) in Penn, Northampton (now West Penn, Schuylkill), Pennsylvania;  died 02 May 1850 aged “75” years(14) in Ellsworth, Mahoning, Ohio;  married about 1801 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania to Susanna Broadsword(H) who was born 01 January 1782 in Westmoreland County and died 18 December 1865 age 84 years(14) in Ellsworth (also Obituary: 04 January 1866).

[She was the daughter of Johann Peter Bradschwert and Elisabetha Hannah Rodabaugh who, with Peter’s parents Matthias and Maria Barbara Breitschwerdt, are known to have been in Huntingdon, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania by 1780(D) and are the only Broadsword families in Pennsylvania in the 1790 Census: Mathias Brodsword and Elesabeth Brodsword, both in South Huntingdon, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Matthias, the immigrant, was born about 1710, came to America in 1752 and settled originally in Carnarvon, Berks, Pennsylvania.]

According to the Mahoning County History(H), Philip was one of the first three settlers in what is now Ellsworth Township [NOTE: Some other references credit him as being the very first permanent settler in Ellsworth]. He came in 1803 with his wife’s brother(H)[presumably George Broadsword, who was born about 1779, was a taxpayer in Trumbull (now Mahoning) County, Ohio by 1807, was married 21 December 1808 in Trumbull County to Polly Watts, and settled near Philip Arner by 1809]. Philip settled on 160 acres on the east bank of the Meander Creek, on the road leading to Canfield. He built the first log cabin in Ellsworth and went back to Pennsylvania in the Spring of 1804 to get his family(H).

He was a taxpayer in Trumbull (now Mahoning) County, Ohio in 1804 (Boardman Township), 1806 (6th Collection District), 1809 (Canfield Township), 1810 and 1812 (Elsworth Township). [NOTE: He wasn’t moving; the township boundaries were.  ] He was a founding member of the German Reformed and Lutheran Church in Canfield, sometime before 1810. They are buried at Ellsworth Cemetery in Ellsworth Township, (their gravestone; the inscription).

She was a stenographer. 1900 Census: Jessie Yates (widow), page 165, visit 114/116, Youngstown (3rd Ward), Mahoning, Ohio. Only child with first husband:  Blanche M. Yates, born 23 May 1884(36), died 17 August 1958 in Los Angeles County, California(36), married [after February 1912] to ______ Mahoney(36), she moved to Montana by 1912.
