He was a farmer. He homesteaded government land in Bear Lake, Manistee, Michigan and received a patent on 01 February 1875 (the patent).

Henry Philip7 Hilliard, born 04 December 1890(40);  died 05 February 1959 at Flint, Genesee, Michigan;  married 1926-27 probably at Flint to Ruperta M. ______ who was born 26 April 1911(17)(46) in Michigan and died 07 September 1983 at Flint(17)(46). He was a machinist in an automobile factory. He was a WWI veteran; he registered for the Draft in Manistee County. 1920 Census: Henry Hillyard (single, with brother Emery, above). 1930 Census: Henry P. He was a chauffeur and she was a cook on a private estate [Jesse Vincent, vice-president of an automobile company]. He was a WWI veteran; he registered for the Draft in Manistee County. 1930 Census: Samuel D. Hilliard, page 173, visit 358/540, Grosse Pointe Park village, Wayne, Michigan. No children with them in 1930.

John7 Hilliard, born 17 November 1898(17)(46);  died 19 December 1985(17) at Waterford, Oakland, Michigan(46);  married 1920-21 to Margaret ______ who was born 31 October 1900(17)(46) in Michigan and died 12 February 1975(17) at White Lake, Oakland, Michigan(46). Mabel Mae7 Hilliard, born 26 January 1901(46);  died 07 May 1984 at Livonia, Wayne, Michigan(46);  married to Louis E. Christiansen (son of Rasmus and Mary Christiansen) who was born 13 September 1890 in Onekama, Manistee, Michigan(40). He was a farmer.

William Charles7 Hilliard, born 23 December 1903(46)(but SSDI says 03 December(17));  died 28 January 1975 at Manistee, Manistee, Michigan(17)(46); married after the 1930 census to Anna Wallner (her second marriage) who was born 05 October 1888(17) in Germany and died 03 April 1977 at Manistee(17)(46). 1930 Census: (single, with mother).

Lois Katherine7 Hilliard, born 07 March 1905(17);  died 18 May 1992(17) at Kaleva, Manistee, Michigan;  married after the 1930 census to Graham Mitchell (possibly his second marriage) who was born 22 March 1897(17) in Michigan and died April 1964(17) in Putnam County, Florida(45). They moved to New Jersey.

Ira Leo5 Arner, born 02 April 1850(14);  died 05 April 1910 in Bear Lake, Manistee, Michigan(14);  married 18 May 1873 in Manistee County (FHL film #945508) to CATHERINE HILLIARD who was born 25 December 1853 [although gravestone says 1854(14)] in Washington, Butler, Pennsylvania and died 27 November 1925 in Bear Lake(14)(also Book 3, page 196). He first arrived in Manistee County in 1867 (from the Patron List in Standard Atlas of Manistee County, published by George A. Ogle and Company, Chicago, Illinois, 1903).
