Valentine Fehl, born 20 August 1757 in West Nantmeal, Chester, Pennsylvania; died 21 April 1827 in Menallen, Adams, Pennsylvania; married 30 June 1776 (Personal Register of Rev. John Waldschmidt, Reformed Minister of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania) to MARIA ELISABETHA BÖHMER who was born 27 October 1751 possibly in Berks County, Pennsylvania and died 14 September 1831 in Menallen.
He was the son of Georg Valentin Vehl (son of Martin and Sarah Vehl) who was born 14 June 1730 in Oberhochstadt [near Landau], Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany and came to America on the ship Anderson which sailed from Rotterdam and arrived at Philadelphia on 25 August 1751. [NOTES: a George Fehl appears on the 1779 Tax List in Manheim, York, Pennsylvania (adjacent to the part that is now Adams County); and a George Fehl was a founding member of Mark’s German Reformed Church in Mount Joy, York (now Adams), Pennsylvania in 1789. It seems likely to be the same one.]
Valentine purchased land in Franklin, York (now Adams), Pennsylvania in 1795 and received a deed July 1809; he operated a hotel there until at least 1825 (page 257, History of Adams County, Pennsylvania, published by Warner, Beers & Company, Chicago, Illinois, 1886). In 1799, he appeared on the Menallen Tax List as “Val. Fail, tavern and saw-mill”. On 30 August 1799(6), they were baptismal sponsors in Menallen for Anna Sarah Boehmer, daughter of Elisabetha’s brother Johann Michael Böhmer.
