Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 26 July 1912

Eli T. Arner died at the county infirmary Monday morning of infirmities incident to advanced age.  Deceased was the youngest son of Philip Arner, one of the first settlers of Ellsworth township, and was born May 3, 1825, consequently had passed his 87th birthday.  His wife died a few months ago.  Two daughters survive him, Mrs. Ella Ralstop of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Jessie Miller of Missouri, Mont.  Mr. Arner was for years one of the most extensive farmers and stock dealers in Mahoning county and owned many acres of land.  But reverses came, largely through endorsing notes for others, and finally his entire fortune was swept away.  Last winter Mr. Arner and his wife became helpless through sickness and they were taken to the infirmary where they were given every attention possible to make their last days comfortable.  The funeral of Mr. Arner was held Wednesday at the infirmary, Rev. M. G. Jerrow, pastor of the Ellsworth Presbyterian church, conducting the services.  The remains were taken to Ellsworth and laid to rest in the village cemetery.

Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 16 Feb 1912

Mrs. Anna H. Arner, wife of Eli T. Arner died in the county infirmary last Saturday forenoon from the effects of a stroke of paralysis sustained in the morning.  Mrs. Arner was born in Ellsworth township 86 years ago, her maiden name being Harklerode.  Her husband at one time was one of the largest land owners in Mahoning county, but reverses came and his property was swept away.  For some time the aged couple had been physically unable to care for themselves and being without means were on Jan. 22 taken in the county infirmary.  Both old people were given the best possible care in the infirmary and Mr. Arner shows considerable improvement despite the fact that he is nearly 88 years of age and is able to get about the building with assistance.  Two daughters residing in Montana and Indiana are unable to attend their mother’s funeral on account of sickness.  A granddaughter, Miss Yates, of Montana arrived Wednesday night.  She did much in a financial way for quite a number of years for her aged ancestors.  Mrs. Arner’s funeral will be held at the infirmary Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock, in charge of Rev. M. C. Jerrow pastor of the Ellsworth Presbyterian church, of which the deceased was a member.  The choir of the same church will sing.  The remains will be laid to rest in the family lot in the Ellsworth cemetery.

ARNER, Anna H. nee HARKLERODE

Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 16 Feb 1912

Salem - Sincere regret was expressed here on account of the death in the infirmary at Canfield of Mrs. Eli Arner, aged 86 and recently sent there with her husband who is 87 and was once one of the wealthiest farmers in this section of the state, their farm and home having been in Ellsworth Township. Some money was raised here for the old couple’s benefit and it was the intention to provide them another and more comfortable abode and there was talk the old lady should be removed to the Old Ladies’ Home that by the will of Miss Sallie Tod, has received such a large cash bequest.  But it appears no one is taken in there unless a certain amount is paid or secured, it not being so much a charity as some good folks had been induced to believe.

Ellsworth – Quite a number of relatives and friends from here attended the funeral of Mrs. Eli Arner at the County Infirmary last Friday afternoon. The remains were brought here for burial.
