NOTE: This page is an abbreviated version that only highlights the documentation for the two Arner-Paul family connections. For a more detailed Paul genealogy, go to this webpage.
(Lieutenant) Nicholas Paul, born 08 July 1748 probably in Northampton County, Pennsylvania; died 16 April 1820 in Point, Northumberland, Pennsylvania; married about 1775 to Anna Barbara Vass (daughter of George and Margaret Faas/Vass) who was born 03 September and christened 14 November 1757 (Sponsors: Christian Bender and Anna Barbara Knecht)(recorded at Tohickon Union Church (Reformed Congregation) in Bedminster, Bucks, Pennsylvania; FHL microfilm #388563) and died 17 November 1823 in Point Township.
He was a farmer. He was a Second Lieutenant in the 3rd (Captain Lawall’s) Company, 5th Battalion, Northampton County Militia on 21 May 1777(C). He also served in the Northampton County militia in 1781, 1784 and 1785(C). He was on the Bethlehem, Northampton, Pennsylvania Tax Lists in 1780 (as a labourer), 1786 (as a farmer) and 1788.
On 09 April 1803(5b), they were baptismal sponsors for Thomas5 Arner, son of Henry and Catharina (Paul) Arner, below. On 14 December 1808, they sold a parcel of land to John and Elizabeth (Paul) Orner, below (Northampton Deed Book F3, page 029), and another parcel of land to Henry and Catharina (Paul) Arner, below (Northampton Deed Book H7, page 393)[NOTE: neither sale was recorded at Easton until years later, when the land was resold, which is why they’re not in the same Deed Book].
1790 Census: Nicholas Ball, page 280, Bethlehem, Northampton, Pennsylvania.
1800 Census: Nicholas Bahl, page 546, Hanover, Northampton, Pennsylvania.
1810 Census: Nicholas Bahll, page 098, Hanover, Northampton, Pennsylvania.

[NOTE: A Request for Partition, filed 25 November 1825 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in connection with Nicholas Paul’s estate, refers to Catharina as being married to a Henry Hubler instead. It appears that whoever wrote that document put down “Hubler” by mistake.]
Anna Maria Paul, born 02 August and christened 17 October 1784(9); married Henry Christian Hunsicker. On 09 February 1805, Maria, apparently still single, was a baptismal sponsor for Anna Maria5 Arner, daughter of Henry and Catharina (Paul) Arner, just above.
