NOTES: Since Heinrich3 Arner (Heinrich2, Ulrich1) moved to Kingston, DeKalb, Illinois before he died, and is believed to have been buried at the cemetery donated by the Aurner and Dibble families, it seemed likely that most, if not all, of the five Aurner families in Sturgis, St. Joseph, Michigan and/or Kingston were sons, or at least nephews, of Heinrich. The fact that all of these Arner families, and no others, moved to the same locations in Michigan and/or Illinois would seem to indicate that they must be a family group. However, there are several other instances (in other branches of the Arner family) of cousins joining a family group in a certain location, and brothers not joining that family group. So I created a list of the main families in Sturgis and Kingston, and a worksheet of Heinrich and his brothers showing the numbers of minors that had been enumerated with each of them in all of the censuses from 1800 to 1830. I then compared that with the previously known lists of their children, just to see if it was possible to place all of the Arner men in Sturgis and Kingston into these families. As it turned out, it was not only possible, but four of them fit perfectly into Heinrich’s known family, and all of them would fit into his family, based on birthdates alone.
[Since doing this
worksheet, I found baptismal records, etc and was able to fill in the families
of Henry’s brothers. If I had found those records first, there would have been
no need for this worksheet
; but since it was already done, I’ve
updated it and posted it anyway. It still serves to show how well the lists of
children match up to the census listings. Except that there is still a chance
that Leonard Aurner (instead of Lawrence Arner) might be the son of John
instead of Heinrich.]
Below are the Aurner heads of households in Sturgis and Kingston that I needed to place. I listed the approximate dates that they were born, and the approximate dates that they were known to have moved to different states (mainly from census records), just in case that info was needed to help find them. Then I compared their birthdates with the worksheet of Heinrich and his brothers (excluding Philip3 Arner, of Mahoning County, Ohio whose children were already well-known and accounted for).
