NOTES: At first, I expected that Zalmon Ornertt might connect to the Jacob Orner who was in New York City in the 1720s, but so far, I haven’t been able to find any Arner/Orner’s mentioned in any of the lists or other references of the early Germans in the Schoharie and Mohawk valleys of New York.

If Daniel Arner was the son of Solomon, then Solomon was from Pennsylvania and moved to New York circa 1807-09. Of the known Arner/Orner families, Solomon could conceivably be the son of Ulrich2 Arner (Hans Ulrich1 Arner), of Joseph1 Ahner/Arner/Anner, of Jacob1 Arnert, or of Michael2 Orner (Jacob1 Orner). Otherwise, he must belong to an undocumented family, or be an immigrant himself.

If Daniel Arner was not the son of Solomon, then Solomon is of unknown origin. In that case, there are several families that Daniel Arner could possibly belong to, but the most likely is Johann and Susan (Heinrich) Arner, who are already believed to have had a son Daniel born 1802-10(M); and who also had a so-far unknown daughter born about 1804-10 (from 1820 census) who could be Julia Ann Arner.

Possibly Solomon Orner/Arner, born about 1760-65;  married to ___________? who was born 1765-80.

1810 Census: Zalmon Ornertt, page 086, Jefferson, Schoharie, New York. [NOTE: Here is a list of Zalmon’s neighbors in the 1810 census, just in case it might provide a clue to somebody else researching this family.]

A comparison of the census-taker’s handwriting makes it seem unlikely that this is a misreading of Arner/Arnes, etc. However, since she is the only “Ames” in Schoharie County in the 1850 census, it is possible; and she is the right age to have been Solomon Orner/Arner’s wife. However, there were some Ames families in earlier censuses in Schoharie County.]
