Henrich1 Solt, born about 1680 in [the Palatinate?], Germany;  married in Germany to ________?.

They immigrated to America circa 1740s and settled at Egypt in Whitehall, Bucks (now North Whitehall, Lehigh), Pennsylvania (“Daniel, son of Henrich Sold…of Egypt”, baptismal sponsor on 03 October 1752(2)).

Two of his sons, Johannes and Daniel moved to Towamensing, Northampton (now Franklin, Carbon), Pennsylvania about 1762-63; they are on the 1764 Towamensing Tax List, but not the 1761 list. A third son Melchior followed them shortly afterward, by at least 1772.

[From the Brenckman History of Carbon County(G), page 198: “It appears that the first permanent settlement in Franklin township was made by the Solt family, and their descendants are still to be found in the district. Before the close of the Revolution, John, David and Daniel Solt lived here.” Also, on page 352: “In 1785, [Colonel Jacob] Weiss brought his family…to the new home [now Weissport]. At the time of his coming, the Arners, Solts and Hoeths were already settled along the Poho Poco creek, several miles to the eastward…”.]

Known children, born in Germany, last two possibly not in correct birth order:

+    JOHANNES NICHOLAS2 SOLT, born 10 August 1722;  married Maria Catharina Balliet.

+    DANIEL2 SOLT, born 04 September 1726;  married Anna Catharina Shaffer.

Anton2 Solt, birthdate not known;  married 07 May 1750(11) in Whitehall, Bucks (now South Whitehall, Lehigh), Pennsylvania to Eva Aegener (possibly daughter of Johannes and Margaretha Aegener) who was born about 1729. On 07 September 1760, they were baptismal sponsors in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania for Antony Solt, son of Melchior and Anna Maria Solt(4), just below. They later moved to North Carolina (see Celia L. Hartmann’s GEDCOM).

Johannes Melchior2 Solt, birthdate not known;  died about 1778 in Towamensing, Northampton (now Franklin, Carbon), Pennsylvania;  married first by 1752 to Anna Maria ______;  married second by 1768 to Philippina ______. He appears on the Towamensing Tax Lists by 1772 (PA:3:19:075)(C). He owned a sawmill. His estate (Northampton Will File #825); Letters of Administration filed 1778. Known children with first wife:

Probably David3 Solt, born 18 March 1752;  died 1824 in Union County, Pennsylvania [birth and death dates from pension file];  possibly married to Susanna ______. He is presumably the David Solt referred to by Fred Brenckman in his History of Carbon County(G), above [NOTE: The reason that he is mentioned instead of (his father?) Melchior might be because Melchior died so soon after moving there and didn’t leave many records (but I’m just speculating)]. David received a Revolutionary War pension (File #S40537), application filed 23 June 1818 in Union County. 1800 Census: David Sold, page 742, Penns, Northumberland, Pennsylvania. 1810 Census: David Sold, page 308, Penns, Northumberland, Pennsylvania. 1820 Census: David Solt, page 082, Penn, Union, Pennsylvania. [NOTE: The 1800 and 1810 censuses indicate that he may have had at least five sons and two daughters.]

Johannes3 Solt, christened 19 March 1757 in Macungie, Northampton (now Lehigh), Pennsylvania [birthdate not recorded](Sponsors: Johannes Hainle and wife Catharina)(39);  died about 1810 in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania;  possibly married to Elizabeth ______ who was born 19 February 1761(14) and died 27 July 1822(14) in Lehigh. He is probably the Johannes Sold confirmed 05 May 1771 in “the Indianland” [St. Paul’s Church in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania](4). 1790 Census: John Sult, page 285, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. 1800 Census: John Solt, page 563, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. 1810 Census: Elizabeth Solt, page 077A, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. 1820 Census: Elizabeth Solt, page 251, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. Her estate (Northampton Will File #3455); Letters of Administration filed 1822. She is buried at St. Paul’s (Indianland) Church in Lehigh. Possible child:

Possibly Michael4 Solt [NOTE: Michael is supposed to be the son of a John Solt; however, there is no proof for this connection yet], born 1809;  died 1881;  married to Hannah Hoover (daughter of Jacob Hoover and Margaret Smeal) who was born 1811 and died about 1896. He was a farmer. 1850 Census: Michael Solt, page 334, visit 693/693, Bradford, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. 1870 Census: Michael Solt, page 021, Delaware, Mercer, Pennsylvania. Known children:  Permila Solt, married Isaac Carroll;  Michael Solt;  Elizabeth Solt, born about 1832; died 25 April 1888;  Mary E. Solt, born about 1834;  Mariah J. Solt, born about 1839, died 1854;  David S. Solt, born 19 October 1841, died 1914, buried at Shenango Valley Cemetery;  Hannah Solt, born about 1844;  Ellis Solt, born about 1846;  Simon P. Solt, born about 1851;  Ashley Robert Solt, born 1854, died 1858;  John Solt, born and died 1859.

Possibly Peter3 Solt, died about 1787 in Towamensing, Northampton (now Franklin, Carbon), Pennsylvania;  married to Susanna ______. His estate (Northampton Will File #1190); Letters of Administration filed 1787. Known child:  Johann Solt, born 08 March 1784(24).

Antony3 Solt, born August 1760 and christened “3 weeks old” 07 September 1760 in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania (Sponsors: Antony Sold and Eva [above] )(4);  died about 1828 in Lehigh Township;  married to Juliana Layenberger. 1800 Census: Anthony Solt, page 563, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. 1810 Census: Anthony Solt, page 077A, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. 1820 Census: Anthony Solt, page 251, Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania. [NOTE: The 1800 and 1810 censuses indicate that he may have had at least six sons and three daughters.]

Known children with second wife:

Anna Maria3 Solt, born July-August 1768 and christened “8 months old” 16 April 1769 in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania (Sponsors: Henrich Lutter and Anna Maria)(4).

Johann Martin3 Solt, born 19 March and christened “4 weeks old today” 16 April 1770 in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania (Sponsors: Martin Arner “Ulrich Arner’s son, across the Blue Mountain” and Louisa Luttern, both single)(4). Possibly 1810 Census: Martin Solt, page 994, Haycock, Bucks, Pennsylvania.
