[NOTE: This is not intended to be a complete genealogy of this Auner family. It only contains the information that I happened to find while researching the Orner family of Philadelphia, plus a little more information that I looked up later. I do not have any further info on this Auner family.]

[?Joseph] Peter Auner, born about 11 April 175[8?];  died 24 December 1831? aged 73 years, 8 months, 13 days at Philadelphia(4);  married first to Margaret _______ who was born about May 1759 and died (buried 11) July 1793 at Philadelphia(2);  married second 19 October 1797 in Burlington County, New Jersey (FHL film #848872) to Margaret White who was born 24 June 1765 and died 10 January 1846 at Philadelphia(4).

He and his second wife are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery at Philadelphia(4).

George A. Auner, born about 1815;  died before the 1900 census;  married to Eliza L. Stanton who was born about August 1815 in New Jersey. Aurner, page 226B, line 08, Philadelphia (E.D. 173), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [also grandsons George F. Aurner born about 1876 in DC, and William W. Aurner born about 1877 in Pennsylvania]. 1900 Census: Eliza L. Aurner (widow, with grandson George W. Auner born about June 1876 in Maryland and wife Charlotte), page 141, visit 021/024, Philadelphia (E.D. 012), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eliza applied for a Civil War dependent’s pension based on the service of her son Albert, Application #546113 filed 05 April 1892 in Pennsylvania. They had nine children, all of whom died before the 1900 census. Known children:

(Corporal) George Albert Auner, born about 1843. He was a house carpenter. He served in the 2nd (Hastings’ Keystone) Battery, Pennsylvania Light Artillery during the Civil War and applied for an invalid pension (Application #1067444 filed 11? January 1891 in Pennsylvania). 1880 Census: (single, with parents).

Thomas J. Auner, born about 1846;  married after the 1880 census to Nellie ______. He was a printer. 1880 Census: (single, with parents).

Edmund C. Auner, born about May 1850;  married after the 1880 census to Harriet ______. He was a machinist. 1880 Census: (single, with parents).

Catharina Auner, born 28 May 1780(3);  married 21 January 1802 at Philadelphia (recorded at Christ Church at Philadelphia) to Thomas Hape/Hope.

Maria Auner, born 02 June and christened 30 June 1783 (Sponsors: parents)(2);  married 19 September 1801(1) at Philadelphia to Charles Harford.

Elizabeth Auner, born 28 December 1784 and christened 15 March 1785 (Sponsor: Elizabeth Gassner)(2).

William Auner, born 22 April and christened 11 July 1787 (Sponsors: parents)(2).

George Auner, born 1788;  died May 1789 (buried 13 May, aged 10 months, 9 weeks)(2).

David Jouman Auner, born 18 February and christened 08 April 1790 (Sponsors: parents)(2).

Sarah Auner, born July 1791;  died September 1792 (buried 20 September, aged 1 years, 2 months, 16 days)(2).

Known children with second wife, born at Philadelphia:

Joseph G. Auner, born about 1798;  died 29 November 1868 at Philadelphia(4);  married 18 March 1824(4) at Philadelphia to Mary Ann Witman who was born about 1798 in Germany and died 05 December 1868 at Philadelphia(4). He was a publisher and bookseller. He was a member of the Reliance Fire Company [an early volunteer fire department]. 1830 Census: Joseph Auner, page 275, North Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1850 Census: Joseph G. Emma M. auner, born about 1825;  married to John William Hofmann who was born about February 1824 in Pennsylvania. He was a merchant; later he was a “superintendent” (1880 census). 1850 Census: John W Hoffman (with John M Justice), page 328, visit 1274/1643, Philadelphia (North Ward), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1860 Census: J Wm Hoffman, page 118, visit 732/687, Philadelphia (15th Ward), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1880 Census: J Wm Hofmann, page 407, visit 017/018, Philadelphia (E.D. 641), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1900 Census: William Hofmann (married but alone), page 083, visit 076/080, Philadelphia (E.D. 296), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Known children:  William Auner Hofmann, born 12 September 1849, married 30 May 1871 at Philadelphia to Mary Eliza Larzelere (daughter of James Monroe Larzelere and Catharine Wilt Shuman) who was born 15 December 1850 at Philadelphia, he was a bookkeeper and an accountant, known children: Laura Larzelere Hofmann born 13 July 1875, Charles Larzelere Hofmann born 11 July 1877 who married Jean Maude Torbert and was an architect, and Eugene Larzelere Hofmann born 15 November 1881(5)(he registered for the  WWI Draft in Delaware County, Pennsylvania) who married Jane Farris Woodbury and was a banker;  Charles Hofmann, born about 1851;  Franklin A. Hofmann, born about July 1853, he was a clerk, 1880 Census: (single, with parents), 1900 Census: (single, with father);  Harry A. Hofmann, born about 1855;  Kate A. Hofmann, born about January 1858, she was a schoolteacher, 1880 Census: (single, with parents), 1900 Census: (single, with father);  Ella A. Hofmann, born about 1859.

Alfred W. Auner, born about 1826;  died 06 April 1895 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. He was a printer. 1870 Census: Alfred W. Auner, page 216, visit 809/969, Philadelphia (10th Ward 28th District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1880 Census: Alfred Auner (single, with Fanny Kensil), page 275, visit 044/045, Philadelphia (E.D. 588), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Amanda J. Auner, born about 1828;  died 01 November 1901 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. 1870 Census: Amanda Auner (with brother Alfred, just above). She is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Theodore Auner, born 14 February 1830;  died 03 January 1863 at Philadelphia(4);  married after the 1860 census to Julia Ann Ryan (daughter of Philip Ryan and Ann G. Thompson) who was born 21 December 1833 and died 31 May 1909 at Philadelphia(4). 1870 Census: Julia Auner (apparently with Robert O’Neill), page 385, visit 1400/----, Philadelphia (9th Ward 26th District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [Second Enumeration]. 1900 Census: Julia R. Auner (widow), page 154, visit 111/113, Philadelphia (E.D. 541), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. No children recorded with her in 1870. They are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Catherine W. Auner, born about 1833;  died 25 April 1907 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. 1870 Census: Kate W. Auner (with brother Alfred, above). She is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Mary Anna W. Auner, born about 1835;  died 16 December 1908 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. 1870 Census: Anna W. Auner (with brother Alfred, above). She is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Israel H. Auner, born 23 November 1799;  died 31 October 1820 at Philadelphia(4). He is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Known child:  Catherine Smith Auner, born about September 1818;  died March 1822 at Philadelphia(4).

Probably Charles H. Auner [or he might be a son of Peter, Jr.], born about 1801;  died 17 November 1867 at Philadelphia(4);  married 07 April 1825(4) at Philadelphia to Elizabeth Bavis who was born about 1798 and died 26 December 1833 at Philadelphia(4);  married second about 1834 to Elizabeth ______ who was born about 1801 and apparently died 1850s. Auner, page 404, visit 1077/1175, Philadelphia (North Mulberry Ward), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1860 Census: Chs H Auner, page 617, visit 1199/1285, Philadelphia (10th Ward East District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Known children with first wife, born at Philadelphia:

Israel Bavis Auner, born about 1826;  died 09 April 1859 at Philadelphia(4);  married to Elizabeth H. ______ who died 23 December 1914 at Philadelphia(4). He was a bookbinder. Known children, born at Philadelphia:  Clara Frances Auner, born about 1853, died 10 June 1860 at Philadelphia(4);  Lillie Bavis Auner, born about October 1856, died 07 June 1860 at Philadelphia(4).

Mary F. Auner, born 24 March 1827(4);  died 23 May 1907 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. 1860 Census: (single, with father). 1870 Census: Mary F. Auner (single), page 280, visit 1617/1887, Philadelphia (10th Ward 28th District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1880 Census: Mary F. Auner (single, with George A. Auner, above). 1900 Census: Mary F. Auner (single), page 010, visit 115/122, Philadelphia (E.D. 178), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Charles Auner, born about 1830;  married to Margaret ______ who was born about 1834. He was a tinner. 1880 Census: Charles Auner, page 400, visit 205/225, Philadelphia (E.D. 596), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Known children:

Ella Auner, born about 1860;  married by 1880 to Willis Dempsey (son of James and Lydia Dempsey) who was born about 1858 in Pennsylvania. He owned a butcher shop. 1880 Census: Willis Dempsey (with her parents). Known child:  Richard Colden Dempsey, born 05 December 1880, died February 1968 at Philadelphia, married Emma Louise McLaughlin.

Joseph E. Auner, born about February 1865;  married 1895-96 to Susan W. ______ who was born about January 1871 in Pennsylvania. He was a foreman at a gas meter works.

Harry L. Auner, born about January 1867. He was a tinsmith. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 20 November 1891 (aged 24 years, 10 months) and was discharged 28 January 1892 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri (Register of Enlistments in the U.S. Army, 1798-1914).

Carrie E. Auner, born 26 October 1873.

Elisabeth S. Auner, born 19 April 1832(4);  died 10 April 1897 at Philadelphia(4);  unmarried. She was a saleslady. 1860 Census: (single, with father). 1870 Census: Elizabeth Auner (single, with sister Mary, above). 1880 Census: Lizzie S. Auner (single, with George A. Auner, above).

Known children with second wife, born at Philadelphia:

Margaretta Auner, born about 1835;  died unmarried;  buried with parents(4). 1860 Census: (single, with father). 1870 Census: Margaretta Auner (single, with half-sister Mary, above). 1880 Census: Maggie Auner (single, with George A. Auner, above).

Joseph G. Auner, born about 1839;  died 03 July 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg(4). He was a machinist. He served in Company D, 22nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment and in Company A, 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. 1860 Census: (single, with father). He is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Possibly William W. Auner [or he might be a son of Peter, Jr.], born about 1803;  apparently died 1860s;  married to Elizabeth _______ who was born about 1802 in Pennsylvania. He was a laborer. 1830 Census: Wm. W. Peter Auner, born about 1829;  married to Margaret _____ who was born about 1830 in Germany. Henry E. Auner, born about January 1852;  married 1873-74 to Anna E. ______ who was born about November 1854 in Pennsylvania. 1900 Census: Harry E. Children:  Frank Scott Auner, born 05 November 1874(5), he was a bartender, he registered for the WWI Draft at Atlantic City, New Jersey;  Anna H. Auner, born about July 1879.

George S. Auner, born about February 1833;  married 1857-58 to Amanda L. ______ who was born about February 1839 in Pennsylvania. He was a machinist; later he was a farmer. He served in Company G, 54th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment and in Companies G and A, 95th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He received an invalid pension (Certificate #117072), Application #166762 filed 22 June 1871. 1870 Census: Geo Auner, page 281, visit ---/---, Philadelphia (22nd Ward 73rd District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [Second Enumeration]. 1900 Census: George J. Auner, page 004, visit 084/094, Norriton, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. 1910 Census: George S. Auner, page 147A, Norristown (6th Ward), Montgomery, Pennsylvania. Known children:  George T. Auner, born about October 1864, he was a gardener;  Amanda E. Auner, born about June 1866, married to ______ McLean who apparently died shortly before the 1900 census, 1900 Census: Amanda E. McLean (widow, with parents);  Mary Auner, born about 1867;  Margaret Auner, born about 1869.

William W. Auner, born about 1835;  died 15 January 1862 at Doncaster, Maryland;  married 05 June 1857 at Philadelphia to Elizabeth Ann Jenkins. He served in Company G, 26th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Elizabeth received a widow's pension (Certificate #2419), Application #008 filed 06 May 1862. Known child:  Ann Auner, born 24 December 1859, she was recorded at the Soldiers Orphans Institute in the 1870 census [page 152, visit 626/730, Philadelphia (15th Ward 47th District), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania].

Unplaced:

Edmund Cadwalader Auner, born 10 March 1890 at Philadelphia(5)(6);  married 1914-15 to Nellie C. ______ (her second marriage) who was born about 1885 in Pennsylvania. He was a foreman at a milk company(5); later he was an engineer for the U.S. Government(6). He was a WWI veteran. They lived at Atlantic City, Atlantic, New Jersey. 1900 Census: Edward C. Auner (student at Girard College), page 259A, line 37, Philadelphia (E.D. 718), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They possibly had no children.
