NOTES: This is not intended to be a complete genealogy of this Owner family. It mainly contains just the information that I happened to find while researching the Orner family of Philadelphia, plus a little more information that I looked up later. I had to research both families because the Orner and Owner surnames were both sometimes misspelled “Oner” in the early records.

This family is probably of either English or Irish ancestry.

I do not have any further info on this Owner family.

James Owner, married 29 October 1730(2) at Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Margaret Pope.

Known children, born at Philadelphia:

James Owner, born ________;  buried 05 December 1736(2).

James Owner, christened 31 July 1737 aged 2 weeks(2);  buried 09 September 1738(2).

John Owner, born ________;  buried 27 August 1748(2).

[NOTE: Miscellaneous info; I don’t know who this Robert Owner is. Letter left at Philadelphia Post Office: Robert Owner, Pennsylvania, on 15 March 1764 (Buried Genealogical Data, edited by Scott & Stryker-Rodda, published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, Maryland, 1977).]

Marmaduke Owner (probably son of James and Margaret Owner), married 10 February 1759(1) at Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Lydia Potts.

He was a witness to the will of Jacob Grantham, merchant of Southwark (Philadelphia Will Book U, page 063), which was signed 09 November 1776 [and proved 08 December 1787].

He appears on the Southwark Tax Lists only until 1781.

[The will of Edward “Tue”, shipwright, of Southwark (Philadelphia Will Book U, page 046), which was signed 27 April 1787 and proved 11 February 1788, mentions only “Nephews and Nieces” including Edward and James Owner [presumably Marmaduke’s sons], so he was presumably either unmarried or a widower. Edward Tew (son of Henry Tew and Sarah Paul), born 28 January 1709/10 at Philadelphia, was married 30 September 1734 to Mary King. Their son Edward Tew was married 15 February 1752(2) at Philadelphia to Harriet Mullin (or Mullens). Even if this is the same family, I’m not sure what their exact relationship to the Owner family was.]
