NOTES: This family had one child that moved to Heidelberg, Northampton (now Lehigh) County, Pennsylvania. In fact, daughter Anna Elisabetha and her husband actually served as baptismal sponsors for a child of the Northampton County Arners (see here). This is most likely a coincidence, but it could also mean that there was a link between this family and the family of Hans Ulrich Arner.

Johann Jacob1 Orner, born in Germany;  apparently died about 1754 in Whitemarsh, Philadelphia (now Montgomery), Pennsylvania;  married by 1721 in New Amsterdam (now New York City), New York to Anna Margaretha Eychenberg (daughter of Andreas Eychenberg and Anna Christina Stephans) who was christened 07 July 1694 at the Lutheran Church at Neuwied, Rhineland, Germany and probably died after 1770 in Whitemarsh.

[The Eychenberg family is profiled in More Palatine Families, Henry Z. Jones, privately published, Universal City, California, 1991.]

Jacob was on the list of members of the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam (now New York City) in 1727. They moved to Pennsylvania probably during the 1730s, but definitely by 1749.

[Letters left at Philadelphia Post Office (Buried Genealogical Data, edited by Scott & Stryker-Rodda, published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, Maryland, 1977): Hermanus Orner, Whitemarsh, on 13 May 1756 and on 05 August 1756; Thomas Orner, Whitemarsh, on 09 August 1759].

[She was married second by January 1755 to Christopher Raben, who owned an inn in Whitemarsh, and who died about November 1770 in Whitemarsh leaving a widow Margaret (Philadelphia Will Book P, page 018). A document dated 14 January 1755 states: “Know all Men by these presents that I Marg Robins late Md? & Relict of Jacob ‘Orrnar’ decd Do hereby Renounce all my Right & Title of Claim to the Administration of my said Husbands Estate and Request the same may be Committed To Hermanus ‘Orranar’…”.]

Jacob’s estate (Philadelphia Will Book G, File #371): Letters of Administration to Herman Orner filed 25 October 1763; Inventory filed 27 January 1764. [NOTE: I have no idea why these dates don’t match up with the January 1755 date.J Possibly the two records are not for the same Jacob Orner, or possibly I recorded one of the dates wrong. Further research is needed, but it may be quite a while before I can make it back to Philadelphia County.]

Known children, possibly not in correct birth order:

+    (Doctor) Herman2 Orner, born April 1721 (inferred from death record);  married Anna Margaretha Bergenhoff.

+    Probably Christina2 Orner, married 19 October 1742 to Johann Heinrich Ensminger;  moved to York County, Pennsylvania.

+    Michael2 Orner, christened 16 November 1726 (Sponsors: Michiel Peper and Catharina Zengers)(recorded at the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam; FHL film #017503);  married Anna Maria Peyer.

+    Anna Elisabetha2 Orner, married 16 May 1749 “in Christoph Raben’s residence” to Bernhard Jacob Rex(3);  moved to Heidelberg, Northampton (now Washington, Lehigh), Pennsylvania.

[Thomas Orner ??]. [NOTES: The Thomas “Orner” of Whitemarsh, who received a letter at Philadelphia in 1759, might be a misspelling or a misreading of the record; or possibly he died soon after that. He never appears again in any Philadelphia records that I have checked. In fact, I have never yet found any other reference to a Thomas Orner in any 18th Century records.]
