NOTE: According to family tradition, this Urner family was driven from Switzerland about 1672 or 1682 because of the persecution of religious dissidents [Anabaptists], and lived in Alsace, France until about 1708. That is quite likely to be true, since many other Anabaptist families in Switzerland had to do the same thing during the 17th Century.
Ulrich1 Urner, born circa 1660 probably in Zurich Canton, Switzerland; died in Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County, Pennsylvania(F). His wife may have died in 1695 when she had their son Martin.
He and his sons Jacob, Johannes and Martin came from Alsace to Pennsylvania possibly as early as 1708(F), but definitely by 1712. They settled in Roxborough, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1712(F), then moved to Chester (now Lancaster) County, Pennsylvania about 1715(F).
Ulrich is said to have left a will, claimed to have been seen by descendant David Urner (Jonas4, Martin3, Jacob2, Ulrich1) as recently as the 1810s, but since lost, that bequeathed land in Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County, Pennsylvania to his son Jacob(F).
Known children, probably born in Alsace, France:
+ Jacob2 Urner, died about August 1744(F); married Ann ________.
+ Johannes2 Urner, died 1743 in Coventry, Chester, Pennsylvania(A); married Catharina Schmitt.
+ (Reverend) Martin2 Urner, born possibly 1695(9); married first Catharine Reist(B).
